| 18172320    | 2008 | Cell line : SW 480 Source : ATCC Sample Type : - No. of Sample : - Stage : - | Western blotting, Apoptosis assays, Analysis of cytochrome c release,Caspase-3 RNA interference. | Unknown | - | SMAC is useful as a target for the development of more effective chemopreventive strategies and agents.
SMAC mediates NSAID-induced apoptosis through a feedback amplification mechanism involving interactions with inhibitor of apoptosis proteins, activation of caspase-3, and induction of cytosolic release of cytochrome c. The colorectal cancer cell lines used in the study, including HCT116, HT29, and DLD1, were obtained from American Type Culture Collection. |

Sample Type : - No. of Sample : - Stage : - | Induction of Induction of Apoptosis with Cisplatin (CDDP)Apoptosis. | Up-regulation | - | Mitochondrial-released factors including Smac/DIABLO and apoptosis inducing factor were increased in SW480 cells. |
| 17848589    | 2007 | Cell line : - Source : Department of General Surgery, Fukuoka Dental College Hospital and its affiliated hospitals. Sample Type : CRC tumor and normal tissue No. of Sample : 121 Stage : - | - | Up-regulation | 1.73 | - |
| 19148507    | 2009 | Cell line : - Source : So Paulo Hospital of the Paulista School of Medicine of So Paulo Federal University (Escola Paulista de Medicina, Universidade Federal de S?o Paulo; EPM/UNIFESP). Sample Type : CRC tumor and normal tissue No. of Sample : 130 Stage : - | Immunohistochemistry, Chi-square and Student's t-tests. | Up-regulation | - | Smac/DIABLO expression is an independent factor determining the poorer prognosis of patients with colorectal cancer. SMAC expression significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and Dukes' staging. |
| 19578769    | 2009 | Cell line : - Source : - Sample Type : CRC tumor and normal tissue No. of Sample : 98 Stage : TNM Stage II,III | Immunohistochemistry | Up-regulation | - | SMAC, survivin, cIAP-1 and cIAP-2 were positively correlated with tumoral tissue AI. XIAP, SMAC and cIAP-1 play a role in colorectal tumorigenesis, as demonstrated by their direct correlation with cellular proliferation and p53 protein. |
| 21264534    | 2012 | Cell line : - Source : ATCC Sample Type : - No. of Sample : - Stage : - | Immunohistochemistry | Up-regulation | - | High expression of Smac before neoadjuvant CRT could predict good outcome in locally advanced rectal cancer patients. Multivariate analysis confirmed that the pretreatment expression of Smac and Lymph nodal status were independent prognostic factors. High expression of Smac before CRT, and high Dworak's tumor regression grade (TRG) were significantly associated with improved 5-year disease-free survival. Expression of biomarker was evaluated by immunohistochemistry in tumor samples from 98 patients with clinical Stage II and III rectal cancer treated with preoperative pelvic radiotherapy plus concurrent chemotherapy. |

| Gene Family | - |
| Description | This gene encodes an inhibitor of apoptosis protein (IAP)-binding protein. The encoded mitochondrial protein enters the cytosol when cells undergo apoptosis, and allows activation of caspases by binding to inhibitor of apoptosis proteins. Overexpression of the encoded protein sensitizes tumor cells to apoptosis. A mutation in this gene is associated with young-adult onset of nonsyndromic deafness-64. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, May 2013]   |
