| 21949851    | 2011 | Cell line : - Source : - Sample Type : - No. of Sample : - Stage : - | - | Mutation | - | Mononucleotide tracts in the coding regions of the TGFBR2 and BAX genes are commonly mutated in microsatellite instability-high (MSI-high) colon cancers. Role of TGFBR2 or BAX mononucleotide mutation in colorectal cancer as a prognostic biomarker remains uncertain. Compared to MSS/MSI-low cases, MSI-high colorectal cancer is associated with longer cancer-specific survival, regardless of TGFBR2 or BAX mononucleotide tract mutation status. |

Tissues of CRCs from 56 patients who received a complete regimen of 5-FU-based chemotherapy after surgery, and 56 patients matched for age, gender, ethnicity, tumor stage, tumor location, and tumor differentiation who had undergone only surgery (without any pre- or post-surgery therapy), were evaluated. Ddecreased expression of Bax in CRCs which exhibited mutations in the poly G(8) region of the bax gene. |

| Gene Family | - |
| Description | The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the BCL2 protein family. BCL2 family members form hetero- or homodimers and act as anti- or pro-apoptotic regulators that are involved in a wide variety of cellular activities. This protein forms a heterodimer with BCL2, and functions as an apoptotic activator. This protein is reported to interact with, and increase the opening of, the mitochondrial voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC), which leads to the loss in membrane potential and the release of cytochrome c. The expression of this gene is regulated by the tumor suppressor P53 and has been shown to be involved in P53-mediated apoptosis. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants, which encode different isoforms, have been reported for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]   |
