2005 | Cell line : - Source : Department of Pathology at RhodeIsland Hospital Sample Type : CRC tumor and normal tissue No. of Sample : 129 Stage : TNM stage II | Tissue microarray, immunohistochemistry | Down-regulation | - | Loss of claudin-1 expression was a strong predictor of disease recurrence and poor patient survival in stage II colon cancer and may be use as a novel prognostic factor in colonic cancer.
2011 | Cell line : - Source : - Sample Type : - No. of Sample : - Stage : - | RT-PCR, invasion assays | Unknown | - | CLDN1 analysis may be useful to predict and treat patients with a poor prognosis. Patients with high CLDN1 expression were statistically shown to have a relatively better prognosis, and those with low CLDN1 expression showed poorer overall survival and disease-free survival than those with high expression.
2012 | Cell line : - Source : Fukuoka University Hospital in Fukuoka and Fukuoka University Chikushi Hospital in Chikushino. Sample Type : - No. of Sample : 15 CRC patients Stage : - | Immunoprecipitation, Immunoblotting and immunofluorescence analyses | Up-regulation | - | Expression of tight junction protein claudin-1 is highly upregulated in colorectal cancer (CRC) and helps promote tumor progression and metastasis. Claudin-1 might be causally involved in promoting local invasion, as well as distant metastasis via targeting the Src-mediated signaling and resistance to anoikis.
2012 | Cell line : KM 12C, KM 12SM, HT 29 Source : ATCC Sample Type : - No. of Sample : - Stage : - | RT-PCR, immunohistochemistry | Up-regulation | - | The claudin family of membrane proteins, especially claudin-1 and claudin-2, may represent ideal targets for both cancer diagnosis and therapy. Claudin-1 and claudin-2 were found to be overexpressed in CRC tissues.

| Description | Tight junctions represent one mode of cell-to-cell adhesion in epithelial or endothelial cell sheets, forming continuous seals around cells and serving as a physical barrier to prevent solutes and water from passing freely through the paracellular space. These junctions are comprised of sets of continuous networking strands in the outwardly facing cytoplasmic leaflet, with complementary grooves in the inwardly facing extracytoplasmic leaflet. The protein encoded by this gene, a member of the claudin family, is an integral membrane protein and a component of tight junction strands. Loss of function mutations result in neonatal ichthyosis-sclerosing cholangitis syndrome. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]   |
