Pyrosequencing and FRET assays.Polymorhpism-The results suggest that CAV1 alleles might modify CRC heritability.

In this study detected a correlation between rs3807990 and CRC aggregation, nuclear forms and familiar antecedents of CRC). In these groups, found an over-representation of the allele T in all familial forms. In addition, rs6867 (G>A) was also associated with the familiar manifestations of CRC.

ral time RT-PCR, SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting , Immunocytochemistry Unknown-In human colorectal carcinoma cells, expression of caveolin-1 influences the expression of prouPA and its receptor, uPAR, and the localization of cathepsin B and its receptor, p11.

Downregulation of caveolin-1 expression reduces both the degradation of ECM by these cells and their invasiveness.

Caveolin-1 affects the expression and localization of cathepsin B and pro-uPA,and their receptors, thereby mediating cell-surface proteolytic events associated with invasion of colon cancer cells.

HCT 116 and NIH 3T3 cells were used.

Eelevated expression of CAV1 may protect cancer cells from metabolic stresses and thus contribute to tumor progression through the regulation of glucose metabolism.

Gene Type protein coding
Gene Family -
Description The scaffolding protein encoded by this gene is the main component of the caveolae plasma membranes found in most cell types. The protein links integrin subunits to the tyrosine kinase FYN, an initiating step in coupling integrins to the Ras-ERK pathway and promoting cell cycle progression. The gene is a tumor suppressor gene candidate and a negative regulator of the Ras-p42/44 mitogen-activated kinase cascade. Caveolin 1 and caveolin 2 are located next to each other on chromosome 7 and express colocalizing proteins that form a stable hetero-oligomeric complex. Mutations in this gene have been associated with Berardinelli-Seip congenital lipodystrophy. Alternatively spliced transcripts encode alpha and beta isoforms of caveolin 1.[provided by RefSeq, Mar 2010]
