| 16000066    | 2005 | Cell line : - Source : - Sample Type : - No. of Sample : - Stage : - | - | Down-regulation | - | Oncolytic adenovirus expressing IL-24 could exert potential antitumor activity and offer a novel approach to cancer therapy. ZD55-IL-24 exerted a strong cytopathic effect and significant apoptosis in tumor cells with p53 dysfunction. Activation of caspase 3 and caspase 9, and induction of bax gene expression, were involved in tumor cell apoptosis induced by ZD55-IL-24. |

Sample Type : - No. of Sample : - Stage : - | Generation of recombinant adenoviral vectors, Expression of IL-24 in HT-29 cells, RT-PCR, MTT | Down-regulation | - | This study supports a potential therapeutic effect for melanoma differentiation associated gene-7 on colon cancer. Melanoma differentiation associated gene-7 induced expression of a growth arrest and DNA damage (GADD) gene and reduced the expression of both VEGF and MVD in xenograft tumors. |

Compared with the adjacent mucosa, CRC tissues displayed significantly lower MDA-7/IL-24 levels. |

| Gene Family | Interleukins and interleukin receptors |
| Description | This gene encodes a member of the IL10 family of cytokines. It was identified as a gene induced during terminal differentiation in melanoma cells. The protein encoded by this gene can induce apoptosis selectively in various cancer cells. Overexpression of this gene leads to elevated expression of several GADD family genes, which correlates with the induction of apoptosis. The phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein kinase 14 (MAPK7/P38), and heat shock 27kDa protein 1 (HSPB2/HSP27) are found to be induced by this gene in melanoma cells, but not in normal immortal melanocytes. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]   | Chromosome | 1 |
