No. of Sample : 77 CRC and 11 colorectal adenoma patients, 21 healthy controls

Stage : -

2-D DIGE,real time RT-PCR, Western Blotting, ImmunohistochemistryUp-regulation-Serum levels of S100A8 and S100A9 were significantly higher in CRC patients than in healthy controls, suggesting that both proteins or only S100A8 or S100A9 might represent a new serum marker for CRC.

A total of 6 colorectal carcinomas and matched nontumorous colonic mucosal tissues from 6 patients were included in the proteomic analysis. Eleven CRC cell lines (Colo201, Colo205, HT29,WIDR, DLD-1, HCT116, HCT8, LOVO, RKO, SNUC2A and SNUC4) and one normal colon fibroblast cell line (CCD18CO) were examined. Plasma samples from 77 CRC and 11 colorectal adenoma patients as well as 21 healthy controls were collected for this study.

S100A9 staining in combination with anti-CD14 could be used to identify MDSC in whole blood from patients with colon cancer.

An increase in the population of CD14() S100A9(high) MDSC was observed in the peripheral blood from colon cancer patients in comparison with healthy controls.

Western blot, Immunohistochemistry and immuno-fluorescence stain in coloncancer tissues.Up-regulation-Increased expression of S100A8/A9 was noted in inflammatory cells of the peri- an intra-tumoral areas, along with myofibroblasts in colon cancer tissue.

S100A8/A9 and myeloid cells in the tumor microenvironment play an important role in cancer invasion and progression.

Gene Type protein coding
Gene Family S100 calcium binding proteins, EF-hand domain containing
Description The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the S100 family of proteins containing 2 EF-hand calcium-binding motifs. S100 proteins are localized in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of a wide range of cells, and involved in the regulation of a number of cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation. S100 genes include at least 13 members which are located as a cluster on chromosome 1q21. This protein may function in the inhibition of casein kinase and altered expression of this protein is associated with the disease cystic fibrosis. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
