Stage : -

Tissue microarray, ImmunohistochemistryDown-regulation-An important role for MMP-2 and TIMP-3 as prognostic markers for patients with colon and rectal cancer, respectively.

The data of 351 CRC patients who had undergone bowel resection in 1981-1990 were included in the study.

-Down-regulation-TIMP3 suppressed in vivo tumor growth and that liver metastasis was significantly reduced by TIMP3 transduction.

TIMP3 may be a potential molecular tool for colon cancer biological therapy.

mRNA and protein levels of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-3 (TIMP3) were decreased significantly in colorectal cancer tissue when compared with normal mucosa, suggesting that decrease of TIMP3 expression was correlated with malignant behavior of colorectal cancer.

Sample Type : -

No. of Sample : 80 patients and 20 normal colonic mucosa.

Stage : Duke Stage A-D

SABC immunohistochemistryDown-regulation-Expression of BAG1 and TIMP3 was strongly associated with colon carcinoma differentiation, Duke's staging, lymph node metastasis and survival rate.

Over-expression of BAG1 or attenuated expression of TIMP3 may play an important role in genesis and development of colon carcinoma.

Methylation specific PCRMethylation-CpG island methylation of tumor suppressor genes may play a role in colorectal carcinogenesis, the genes involved may be different between tumors of patients with and without a family history of colorectal cancer.

Sample Type : CRC tumor and normal tissue

No. of Sample : 12 pair of CRC and normal tissue sample

Stage : -

Bisulfite-pyrosequencing validation and methylated CpG island amplification microarraysMethylation-Most DNA methylation differences between primary CRCs and matched liver metastasis are due to random variation and an increase in DNA methylation density rather than de-novo inactivation and silencing.

Gene Type protein coding
Gene Family -
Description This gene belongs to the TIMP gene family. The proteins encoded by this gene family are inhibitors of the matrix metalloproteinases, a group of peptidases involved in degradation of the extracellular matrix (ECM). Expression of this gene is induced in response to mitogenic stimulation and this netrin domain-containing protein is localized to the ECM. Mutations in this gene have been associated with the autosomal dominant disorder Sorsby's fundus dystrophy. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
