Sample Type : CRC tumor and normal tissue

No. of Sample : 20

Stage : -

Methylation specific PCR,Western blot analysis, Immunohistochemistry, real time RT-PCRMethylation-Epigenetic gene silencing of SPARC is frequent in colon cancers, and that inactivation of SPARC is related to rapid progression of colon cancers.

Methylation status of the CpG island of SPARC in 7 colon cancer cell lines and in 20 test set of colon cancer tissues were found.

Sample Type : CRC tumor and normal tissue

No. of Sample : 312 CRC tissue sample

Stage : -

DNA bisulfite sequencing, methylation-specific PCR and Combined bisulfate restriction analysis (COBRMethylation-SPARC is commonly dysregulated in GI malignancies. Inhibition of DNA methylation can reverse the silencing of SPARC.

Sample Type : CRC tumor and normal tissue

No. of Sample : 120 paired normal and stage I-IV CRCs.

Stage : TNM Stag I-IV

Tissue microarray Up-regulation-High SPARC and FOXP3 are associated with better disease outcome in stage II CRC and may be prognostic indicators of CSS.

SPARC and FOXP3 expression were significantly greater in CRC than normal colon.

SPARC expression was initially assessed in 120 paired normal and stage I-IV CRCs.

Gene Type protein coding
Gene Family -
Description This gene encodes a cysteine-rich acidic matrix-associated protein. The encoded protein is required for the collagen in bone to become calcified but is also involved in extracellular matrix synthesis and promotion of changes to cell shape. The gene product has been associated with tumor suppression but has also been correlated with metastasis based on changes to cell shape which can promote tumor cell invasion.
